The Difference Between Occupational Therapy & Physiotherapy

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

Occupational therapists and physiotherapists are tertiary qualified allied health professionals that work with patients to improve their function, independence, and quality of life. While there are some similarities between these professions, the differences are important to note when deciding which therapy might best suit you.

Physiotherapists assess and manage your physical impairments such as muscle weakness, balance, motor control, pain, stability and mobility. This differs from occupational therapists who help make tasks of daily living (showering, eating, dressing, washing, cooking etc.) easier. This is often achieved through specific task practice and the prescription of aids and equipment that may assist in performing the desired task as independently as possible.

Often both a physiotherapist and occupational therapist will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working in tandem to help you achieve your goals. At Innovate Rehab, we provide both physiotherapy and occupational therapy who collaborate openly to provide you with the highest standard of care.

For further information regarding each of these disciplines feel free to look at our services page or contact us via phone or email.
